Proverbs 4:21 – Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart.
Our day is filled and purposely designed to take our mind off what is true. Today we are so focused on what to eat, what to wear and where to sleep; the achievements, pride and lust. While these things are temporary and dust-like, we often find ourselves so glued to them. Even with the truth and knowledge I have by God’s grace, I still find myself lose focus from the truth because the temporary feels so real and in your face.
So when I read this verse, I understand what the Holy Spirit is hoping to pass across.
“…Keep them in the midst of your heart”. Our heart is filled mostly with emotions. Every second, minute, hour and day, some form of emotion are felt. God wants us to constantly feel peace, joy, rest – which come with right thinking and believing (which is the definition of righteousness in this Grace age). But since our world is built on temporary things, things which causes so much negative feelings because they are limited, hard-to-get, hard-to-keep etc…oh wait, I’m sorry. I meant to write, we are giving the impression that these temporary things are limited, hard-to-get, hard-to-keep etc…we spend all our time trying to get them and keep them. We lose focus on the tangible while pursuing the perishable. Then the most sorry ones are those who get the perishable and assume that they are secured.
We engage our physical eyes when trying to attain the perishable. We look and see physically to make judgment of what is good or bad. After making such judgment, we respond appropriately. So we could get anxious when we judge that things are falling out of place or we are not meeting up, we might get angry when we judge that someone is trying to mess with us, we might feel special when we judge that someone is going out of their way for us. Our eyes makes these judgments.
“Let them not depart from thine eyes…”. So easier said than done but thank God for God. You don’t have to be perfect but the better you understand and apply the truth, the better life is. For example, if I feel anxious and fearful about my future, God speaks to me through His Word. I just get the right Word and words of encouragement for the situation. Compared to some years ago, where I just have to wait and pray till the those negative feeling go since I didn’t know God was right by my side.
His Word tells me, He will never leave me nor forsake me. Ever since those words stuck to my eyes, I see the world through that lens and it became really easy to see God everywhere.
You could do the same. See the word through the lens of Jesus. Knowing that everything is working out for your good will make you go through life worry-free and without any outside entertainment, you are happy and at peace…and all you had to do was keep those Eternal Words in the midst of your eyes, which will cause them to be in the midst of your heart.
I wish you so much peace and happiness.
